Juvenile Detention Lawsuit
In Maryland, disturbing reports have surfaced of children and teens experiencing abuse while in the custody of juvenile detention facilities. These incidents include physical and sexual abuse, often committed by staff members, administrators, or other individuals in positions of authority.
Facilities Involved
Many of the abuse claims come from both state-run and private juvenile facilities, where oversight and accountability have historically been lacking. Survivors have reported being mistreated, ignored when seeking help, or punished for speaking out.
Patterns of Abuse
The abuse often occurred before the victims turned 18 and was frequently systemic — involving repeated misconduct, intimidation, and neglect by those charged with protecting minors. In many cases, victims were not believed, and the abusers remained in their roles.
Legal Action and Survivors' Rights
Recent changes in Maryland law and growing public awareness have empowered survivors to come forward. Lawsuits are being filed against institutions that failed to protect children in their care. Survivors may be eligible for financial compensation, counseling support, and the opportunity to hold those responsible accountable.
